Start with progression

A serious program should show how a child grows over months and years, not just what they do in week one. Look for age bands, term structure, project expectations, and clear milestones.

If every student does the same beginner activities forever, the program may be entertaining but it is not a learning pathway.

Ask how mastery is confirmed

Completion is not mastery. A child can finish a video, copy a tutorial, or submit a project without understanding the underlying idea.

A strong program explains how mentors confirm capability. It should be able to answer: what does the student have to demonstrate, what evidence is saved, and what happens if the work is not ready yet?

Look for parent-visible proof

Parents should not have to guess whether the program is working. The program should produce plain-language progress updates, project artifacts, and examples of what the child can now do.

Screenshots, portfolio items, milestone statements, and mentor notes are all stronger evidence than vague reports about attendance or enthusiasm.

Check the operational model

For school-based programs, logistics matter. Ask where sessions happen, who supervises students, how absences are handled, how mentors are trained, and how the school receives updates.

The best programs are not only pedagogically strong; they are operationally boring in the best way. Parents and schools know what is happening, when, and why.
